I just got back from production. I'll post some shots from the shoot in the next few days. Forgot my 5 megapixel, but i did have my new camera phone.

Meanwhile, I'll purge some old (OLD) material that may still have relevence today.

Some more notes on Bush’s primetime press conference from a few weeks ago.

Author Ron Suskind recently spoke at the USC campus. According to the Daily Trojan, during his lecture, he made this revelation:

"For each press conference, the White House press secretary asks the reporters for their questions, selects six or seven of the questions to answer and those reporters are the only ones called upon to ask their questions during the press conference, Suskind said. This system makes it so that the president has answers already prepared for questions that he knows will be asked, Suskind said."

This certainly would explain Bush's reference to his "must-call list" during the Q&A. It would also explain why he got pissed off when one of the reporters seemed to have thrown him a curve and became the third person to ask him if he thought he had any failures.

Bush replied, "I wish you'd have given me this written question ahead of time so I could plan for it.” He also seemed to shoot a dirty look at the reporter.

When I was watching this exchange, I applauded the reporter for straying from what I believe was a prepared question, approved by the White House. The Republican I was watching the press conference with didn't find Bush's reaction to be adversarial, but I definitely sensed that Bush was upset with the question.

Based on Suskind's assertion, it looks like I may have been right.

The opening sentence from a letter dated February 10, 1968:
"I request duty in Vietnam."

The closing sentence from that same letter:
" I consider the opportunity to serve in Vietnam an extremely important part of being in the armed forces and believe my request is in the best interests of the Navy."

The letter is signed" John F. Kerry

From John Kerry's REPORT ON THE FITNESS OF OFFICERS records for December 14 1968-March 26, 1969, based on "Close Observation" and signed by two of his superiors:

"LTJG KERRY was assigned to this division for only a short time but during that time exhibited all of the traits desired of an officer in a combat environment. He frequently exhibited a high sense of imagination and judgement in planning operations against the enemy in the Mekong Delta. Involved in several enemy initiated fire fights, including an ambush during the Christmas truce, he effectively suppressed enemy fire and is unofficially credited with 20 enemy killed in action. Though relatively new to the PCF he is thoroughly knowledgeable of all aspects of his boat and PCF operations. He was instrumental in planning of highly successful Sea Lords Operations. He was cited for his performance during action against the enemy by Commander Task Force in his message 080807Z JAN 69."

From Reuters:

Republicans said they had simply questioned Kerry's initial refusal to make the records available because he claimed on "Meet the Press" on Sunday that all of his military records were open for inspection.

" We hope that he has now made good on his pledge and made all of his records available," said Christine Iverson, spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee.

And the Daily Koz's response to the above paragraph:

Translation: we were tricked into giving Kerry a huge platform to discuss what a badass Rambo-esque mother-f'er he is, contrasted to Bush's life of privilige and avoidance of any real sacrifice or responsibility while passing the time with all-day pool volleyball games with "ambitious secretaries".

Even if Kerry has thousands of military docs still unreleased, chances are the GOP will let sleeping dogs lie.
