Blogger Guilt

scoreboard

One the hazards of having a blog, especially one that's been online for 10 years, is that you'll run out of material. One might wonder how that's even possible. "Isn't a blog simply an online log of your daily events?" Well, yes, but as you know, sometimes life just ain't that interesting.

Some bloggers get around the lack of material by posting links to other sites. While I enjoy discovering interesting articles and stories, that isn't exactly the point of a blog.

Some weeks a blogger might have a wealth of material, other weeks nothing. My problem is that I sometimes "stockpile" posts. When I get tons of downtime, I write extra posts to use later. Sometimes this method works, especially if the post isn't topical. However, more often than not, the post gets stale and I end up never posting it.

A recent example is last week's Giants game. I won a contest and helped hold the flag on the field during the National Anthem. To top it off, Jason Schmidt pitched that night and tied a 106-year old Giants record for most strikeouts in a game. Pretty awesome night. I even took photos. But I didn't feel like posting when I got home. I'd get to it the following day. Or so I thought. Instead, that post just got stale, never to be used.

As I write this particular post, I realize that it's almost a PERFECT rainy day post. The only mention of a topical event is the Giants game above, an easily edited paragraph.

Anyway, my point is that you may see a dearth of posts from me over the next week.

Or, you may not.

World Cup

During this morning's status meeting at work, the World Cup played on mute in the front of the conference room. Suddenly, a senior designer shouted:

"Shoot the fucker... DOUCHEBAG!"

And then the meeting continued.

This sound will hurt your ears

The Sunday NY Times had a story about a new ringtone only kids can hear. I've attached the sound as an mp3. I can hear it, but my wife can't. See if you can. No need to crank your volume. If you watch video and can hear it, your volume should be sufficient.

Reminds me of the first Superman movie, when Lex Luthor sent out that high-pitched message that only Superman and dogs could hear. I know I ain't a dog, so I guess that makes me Kryptonian.

Blowing Up

Lily Allen

Thought I'd do a quick post on my latest musical obsession: Lily Allen I can't take much credit for discovering her stuff on my own; she's been the talk of the mp3 blogosphere. (If you haven't been checking out those links on the left, you should be; that's how I've discovered some of my current favs.)

She's been described as a female version of the Streets, but I find her much more melodic. Kind of a cross between rap and pop. I don't usually post mp3's, but I've been finding links all over the web, so one more won't hurt. If the lawyers call, I'll pull the post. Here's the first single from her debut album. It should be out next month:

Going Ape!

Buy this shirt, click here!

Just added to the World According To store, the Ape shirt, featuring artwork by yours truly. I thought I'd drawn Cornelius from Planet of the Apes movies, but a geeky friend informed me that I had actually drawn Galen from the Planet of the Apes tv series.

Nerd.

Anyway, I have been slammed at my new job. Yes, I took a new staff gig. No more selling fast food for me. Now it's cars. I haven't had time to post because we pitched two pieces of new business back-to-back. Things have calmed down a bit, so I hope to be around more.
